Valentine’s Day

cornwall wedding photographers

Christmas is a distant memory, dry January done & dusted and, if you happen to have school age children, it may be dawning on you that the half term holiday is here again (“what??!!! They only went back to school 5 minutes ago…….”).

It’s February and that can only mean one thing; Valentine’s Day!!  That day in the year so anticipated & dreaded in equal measure.  From gloating schoolfriends to smug singletons in the office (and lets not forget that particularly annoying colleague with the husband who always sends a dozen red roses. To work!) it’s never nice to be the one who doesn’t receive anything.

Wedding Etiquette – Who Sits Where in Church?

cornwall wedding photographer

You’ve spent hours working out the reception seating plan (“We can’t put Cousin Fred next to Vera-from-work. He shoots pheasants for fun and she’s a strict vegan…”) but no one ever mentioned the church.  At least, not until the rehearsal, when one of the ushers asked exactly what they had to do.  Um, give out orders of service and show people to their seats.  And um…

It’s probably better to work it all out in advance and hopefully this wedding photographers guide to wedding ceremony seating will help!

So who sits where? (more…)

Abi & Mike at The Carbis Bay Hotel

Dream weddings do happen! All the planning and preparation comes together and results in a perfect day for everyone – the Bride & Groom, their family & friends and even their happy little wedding photographers!  We were recommended to Abi & Mike by the Carbis Bay Hotel and our first meeting was on a slightly drizzly & windy, definitely freezing day in February.  Carbis Bay beach still looked impressive but we all expressed a desire for better weather come the wedding day! We weren’t disappointed.

A (Very!) Quick Look at Some Royal Wedding Photography

Unless you’ve been hidden under a rock recently you will know that HRH Prince Henry Charles Albert David Windsor (that’s Prince Harry to you and me) is marrying Meghan Markle (actually Rachel Meghan – who knew?!) on Saturday 19th May.

The whole world loves a royal wedding. Curiosity about the dress reaches fever pitch and wedding suppliers brace themselves for all those requests “I want my cake/dress/bouquet exactly like that……..!”

Wedding photography is subtly different in that no one asks for their photos to be royal copies. To be fair not many people have a spare ballroom to set everything up in, but we do get to see everyone else’s fabulous efforts.  But as a wedding photographer myself it got me thinking about royal weddings in general and how much – or little – the public actually get to see. Eloping to Cornwall – The Best Idea You Ever Had?!

There’s a growing trend in the UK which you may have heard of, in fact if you happen to be at the wedding planning stage yourself it may even have crossed your mind as being a jolly good idea.  The plot twist of many romantic novels – think daring rendevouz with an unsuitable beau and a moonlit dash to Gretna Green by horse & carriage with cross relatives in hot pursuit! Alright, maybe I’ve watched a little too much ‘Poldark’ and it didn’t work out quite as planned for Downton Abbey’s Lady Sybil when she first tried to run away with the chauffeur, but elopement weddings are definitely gaining popularity.

Bethan & Dan’s Quirky & Laid-Back Wedding at Polhawn Fort (with surfboards!)

surfboard wedding photographSometimes we are so lucky with our beautiful Cornish weddings that we have to pinch ourselves!  One of our absolute favourite coastal wedding venues is Polhawn Fort. It’s such a romantic and unique setting on the beautiful Rame Peninsula.

When Bethan and Dan got in touch with us about capturing their wedding at Polhawn Fort, it was a lovely surprise to hear that they lived in the same town as us. With Dan’s family being in Cornwall and a lot of their friends living locally, Polhawn was an obvious choice.  But with Bethan’s family travelling from Wales it was very much a priority for everyone to have a relaxed and fun day.  Polhawn Fort had been able to offer them a short-notice booking, and Bethan did an amazing job getting everything arranged while being super-mum to their little boy. Carina & Kev at St Dominic Parish Church & Pentillie Castle

wedding photography at pentillie castleEvery now and again we photograph a wedding that has to be described as epic!  Carina & Kev’s fabulous summer day at Pentillie Castle was amazing from start to finish. Carina brought her beloved vintage VW Beetle and Camper as props for the day and was decorating them when we arrived. I must confess to being jealous here as I’ve always really want a classic VW! The marquee looked fantastic and Carina’s summery colour scheme of bright sunflowers and berry shades with lace on the chiavari chairs looked so pretty. The country theme continued with the table decorations of tiny green wellies and feathers, with each table being named after a gunmaker. (more…)

Anna & Desh at St Mary & St Boniface Cathedral & The Royal William Yard

wedding photography tunnels at the royal william yardAnna & Desh’s (actually Andrew but who are we to argue with a nickname!) sunny October wedding was just so much fun.  Anna slightly overran at the hairdressers in the morning – well she had warned me that timekeeping wasn’t her strong point 🙂 – but it really didn’t matter because I got time to chat with the Tuk Tuk driver!  Meanwhile Robb met up with Desh and the boys at the Cathedral (ok pub first!) for some photos.  Anna wanted to keep everything very relaxed & reportage and we were happy to oblige.
