Well our second visit of the week to beautiful Polhawn Fort wasn’t quite so kind to us weather-wise. We hadn’t had the opportunity to meet up with Nicky & James before their wedding, but that’s not unusual when everyone is so busy and especially for a military wedding.
Even in the rain Polhawn has a very romantic and unique charm. Nicky and the girls were crowded into a room getting ready, so I wedged myself in there with them for some preparation photos. Meanwhile Robb took some photos of James and his groomsmen – inside out of the rain but we were holding out hope for a break in the clouds. By now the guests were arriving and it was getting rather cosy in the ceremony room!
Nicky had chosen a pink & purple theme for the wedding and the flowers were absolutely gorgeous. The purple sashes on the chairs and dusky pink bridesmaids dresses all looked so pretty. Her beautiful lace detailed dress was just gorgeous and James looked extremely dashing in his Navy uniform (they always do!).
After the ceremony everyone briefly braved the outside. Unfortunately the weather was still against us and there was absolutely no chance of getting down to the beach for photos. Thankfully Polhawn Fort is an absolute gift to a wedding photographer and Nicky and James were happy to stroll around the lawns with a couple of umbrellas and a change of footwear!
Some very funny speeches and a not-quite-to-plan slideshow rounded off the wedding breakfast.
To make up for the lack of beach photos we set up some lighting at the side of the fort. Nicky and James were good sports and stepped outside in a minor downpour so we could photograph some more portraits for them.
Cake cutting and confetti inside finished off a really lovely day. It was wonderful to be involved and we wish Nicky & James many happy years together.
