Natalie & Ryan at Boringdon Park Golf Club

We were really looking forward to Natalie & Ryan’s wedding for lots of reasons: we already know Natalie’s family (having photographed sister Nicola’s wedding back in 2010) and they’re lovely lovely people.  Boringdon Park Golf Club in Plymouth is a brilliant venue and the scenery is spectacular.  Natalie is great fun and extremely photogenic…I could go on and on!  Its a real perk of being a wedding photographer when you get to photograph a family more than once.  Natalie & Ryan’s son Callum provided the highlight for me, his speech was unexpected and brilliant and deservedly received the best applause!  The day was fantastic from start to finish – we just knew it would be…

Kathryn & Calvin at The Carbis Bay Hotel

There was a hint of rainy-day weather for Kathryn & Calvin at the Carbis Bay Hotel, but it certainly didn’t stop them from enjoying themselves.  As usual Natasha Flower did a beautiful job of the ladies makeup and Calvin looked quite dapper too!  The team at the hotel did themselves proud with the scrumptious food and decoration of the Sands Restaurant for the reception.  And yes that cake really was chocolate and fresh blueberries 🙂  We even managed to brave the raindrops and get down to the beach!  A great day for a lovely couple.  Thank you for including us as your wedding photographers!

Planning a Military Wedding? (or an RAF one…or Navy…)

Every year in the course of our wedding photography work we are really lucky to meet lots of fabulous people.  As well as the rest of our amazing brides & grooms, it’s always great to meet & photograph members of the armed forces.  Sometimes they’ve just come back and sometimes they’re about to go, but the wedding fun is always guaranteed!  We are pleased to offer special discounts to members of the armed forces for weddings in Cornwall, Devon or anywhere else for that matter!  Why not get in touch to see if we’re available for your date 🙂

Matthew & Laura at The Carbis Bay Hotel

Another lovely wedding at the Carbis Bay Hotel!  Matthew & Laura have to be one of the most laid-back couples we’ve ever photographed, in fact all the guests were so chilled it was an absolute pleasure to be involved in this wedding.  Laura’s pale blue colour scheme was so pretty – the bunting, the blue spotty buckets with hydrangeas, even the chocolate decorations & tiny flags on the amazingly delicious-looking sandcastle cake all looked gorgeous.  The sun didn’t shine but no one cared, and when you’re a wedding photographer in Cornwall you just have to go with the flow!  We got some beautiful & natural shots on Carbis Bay Beach, and the whole event just had such a happy feel.  Matt & Laura we wish you both lots of love & luck for the future x

Wedding Photography in Cornwall and…………………….Ice Cream??!!

Now I know I’ve said before that there are lots of perks to being a wedding photographer in cornwall…….but on a sunny day you just can’t beat ice-cream!   Admittedly it can be difficult juggling cameras and a cone of ferrero rocher (note favourite flavour there) but believe me when the ice-cream comes from Mr B’s in Hayle an effort has to be made.  If you’re after something a little different to surprise your wedding guests then their vintage van is a must.  And if you’re just out and about in Hayle do pop into the shop.  I warn you though, its almost impossible to choose just one flavour…and then there are the delicious ice-cream cakes…..yum!  Here are a couple of images from one of our favourite weddings at The Carbis Bay Hotel.

Naomi & Matt at the Plymouth Christian Centre & The Thurlestone Hotel

Wedding plans hadn’t gone altogether smoothly for this lovely couple, with last-minute changes to both the church & reception venues!  But everything came together on the day and a huge amount of family & friends joined them for a lively ceremony at the Christian Centre in Plymouth (with some seriously good musicians too!).  The Thurlestone Hotel once again proved to be a great venue and we even managed to squeeze the wedding car down the rather narrow road to the beach for some stunning shots.  In spite of the rather chilly wind, Naomi bravely took off her coat to show off her gorgeous dress – and looked extremely glamorous while doing so!  Its always great to see friends & family enjoying themselves, well we had a great day too and wish them a long & happy life together x

Phil & Vicky at The Carbis Bay Hotel

Another great day at the Carbis Bay Hotel – and even the weather behaved for us.  The hot pink theme warmed up a slightly grey day, but nothing was going to stop the wedding party from letting off steam on the beach after the ceremony!  Phil & Vicky – and the boys of course – we wish you all the best for a happy life together x

Victoria & Alan at Ansty Hall, Coventry

When Victoria & Alan attended a wedding fair at Anstey Hall near Coventry they realised they’d found their perfect venue. These two have to be the most organized couple I’ve ever known, and it certainly showed on the day when everything ran like the proverbial clockwork! We kept a wary eye on the weather, which eventually decided not to play fair, but it didn’t matter. Bridal preparations were very laid back & Victoria looked absolutely stunning in her Ronald Joyce dress with just the right amount of sparkle.  She certainly lit up the room – quite a few tears of emotion were spotted & not just from the groom! The ceremony had a wonderfully happy feel to it and to reflect their shared love of Terry Pratchett’s writing there was a brilliant reading from one of his books. The rain stopped just long enough to get the shot we wanted of everyone outside the Hall, and I have to thank the super-helpful chap on reception who actually took the photo for me (couldn’t take it and be in it too could I…).

The reception room looked absolutely beautiful – full marks to everyone involved, especially Victoria who actually made the miniature jam pot favours herself, and Victoria’s mum Kate who made the scrumptious cake. More Terry Pratchett inspiration came in the table names – a little tricky for the uninitiated to pronounce! The food was lovely & speeches were great, especially from the best man who gave us a brilliant insight into Alan’s childhood!  More friends & family arrived for the evening celebrations and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We certainly had a great time and wish them a wonderfully long & happy life together x

Claire & Tim at Germoe Church & Porth en Alls

Working as a wedding photographer in Devon and Cornwall makes it possible to meet some truly wonderful people and to visit some of the hidden gems in and around the west country that you’d never normally get to see.

It’s difficult to describe this wonderful wedding and do it full justice!  Having decided on a rainbow/vintage theme for their wedding, Claire & Tim found a beautifully unique venue for their reception  – Porth en Alls is right by the sea and the house itself reminded me of something from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ with its quirky rooms & corridors.  The beautiful & unusual flowers from eco-friendly florist Daisy Roots arrived while Claire and her nine bridesmaids were getting ready.  It was quite a feat getting everyone curled & coiffed & into those petticoats!  But when everyone was ready I hopped on the vintage coach with the bridesmaids, and Claire and her Dad travelled to the beautiful Germoe Church in a horse-drawn carriage; those horses were so gorgeous!  Tim & the boys all looked fab in uber-cool hats & seriously bright ties too.  The service was lovely – all the little bridesmaids sitting amidst a sea of frothing petticoats made everyone smile, and Booboo (Claire & Tim’s rescued greyhound) made an excellent ring-bearer!

Back at the house the reception was held in the most amazing tipi marquees (think giant hats…) and the sun finally decided to shine on the proceedings.  Speeches were rather emotional, and the evening barbecue was a huge success, as was the Uley Cotswold Bitter, brewed by a relative of Tim’s!

Claire & Tim, we wish you both a long & happy life together – full of rainbows!

Aelene & Martin at Pentillie Castle

As a wedding photographer in Cornwall there a few venues that I really relish the idea of working at, so I was absolutely delighted when Aelene & Martin chose us to photograph their wedding at the stunning Pentillie Castle in Saltash, Cornwall – definitely one of our favourite venues!  The guys all looked gorgeous in their dress uniforms and Robb spent the morning running from Castle to pub (in nearby St Mellion) to Castle with them before hitching a rather bumby lift to church on the wedding tractor!

Aelene’s preparations at Pentillie were a little more laid-back and she looked absolutely beautiful in her halter-necked lace dress & slightly 60’s inspired hairdo. Transport to Landulph Church for Aelene was a specially decorated military truck, which looked amazing and completely blocked the narrow road between Pentillie and the church!

After an interesting service (sorry but we weren’t allowed to photograph any of it) which featured an inspired reading from Winnie-the-Pooh by Aelene’s mum Patricia and wonderful music courtesy of Mark on Piano and James on Violin, The new Mr & Mrs Allison left the church under an archway of swords & riding crops.

Back at Pentillie the marquee was looking fabulous and a special mention just has to be made of the incredible cake!  We disappeared off in the landrover for some shots of Aelene & Martin around the estate and boy was it windy up in that field!  I was worried that Aelene would be blown away but after rescuing and re-attaching her veil(!) we headed back to the Castle so Martin could change into his kilt and the reception could begin.  Some guests were a little surprised when just before the main course a round of haggis was accompanied into the marquee by a rousing tune on the bagpipes, but everyone entered into the spirit and enjoyed the whiskey toasts!  The speeches were hilarious and afterwards we slipped away to the Bathing Hut down by the river wth Martin and Aelene for some more photos.  The setting was truly magical and Martin got quite romantic about it all!

Big thanks to everyone who helped, and especially to Aelene & Martin for making our job so enjoyable.  We just know you’ll continue to have a wonderful life together!
