Sometimes we are so lucky with our beautiful Cornish weddings that we have to pinch ourselves! One of our absolute favourite coastal wedding venues is Polhawn Fort. It’s such a romantic and unique setting on the beautiful Rame Peninsula.
When Bethan and Dan got in touch with us about capturing their wedding at Polhawn Fort, it was a lovely surprise to hear that they lived in the same town as us. With Dan’s family being in Cornwall and a lot of their friends living locally, Polhawn was an obvious choice. But with Bethan’s family travelling from Wales it was very much a priority for everyone to have a relaxed and fun day. Polhawn Fort had been able to offer them a short-notice booking, and Bethan did an amazing job getting everything arranged while being super-mum to their little boy.
The weather can be hit and miss on the Cornish coast, even in the middle of summer, but we woke up to blue skies and sunshine which promised a beautiful backdrop to the outdoor ceremony.
Bethan looked beautiful in her lace detailed dress, whilst Dan and the boys opted for smart suits with a hint of Cornish tartan. The bridesmaids’ and page boys were so cute and so pleased to be involved it was completely adorable. Bethan’s beautiful romantic bouquet and silver shoes perfectly finished off her theme of understated, pretty and fun.
Bethan’s brother provided a perfect musical accompaniment on guitar during the ceremony, and little Joseph provided the entertainment by trying to get Daddy to play with him! All the guests relaxed and enjoyed drinks on the lawn – even the family dogs joined in – while we took Bethan and Dan down to the beach for some photos. Fortunately for us the tide was fully out so we didn’t have to dodge any incoming waves! Bethan had been prepared for rain and bought a pretty heart-shaped umbrella. It would have been a shame to waste it so it doubled up as a handy sunshade. Polhawn Fort is a stunning location at any time of the year, but the summer colours of the coastline truly make it an amazing place to be.
Back up the steps (catch breath!) and time for a quick photo with the other loves in Dan’s life – his surfboards!
Inside the fort the tables had been laid in a long trestle that stretched the whole length of the room. Vintage vases and tiny ceramic jugs held pretty posies of dried flowers, while vintage postcards of Bethan and Dan’s favourite places were used as table markers. The whole feel was very friendly, laid-back and vintage, and I don’t think people stuck too rigidly to the seating plan. There was plenty of laughter during the speeches, stories of surfing trips and shared holidays. I think its safe to say that Bethan and Dan are quite perfectly matched!
We left Bethan & Dan enjoying the company of their wonderful family and friends, celebrating their fabulous laid-back and quirky wedding day. We wish them many more happy years of family fun, travel and surfing, and we’d like to say thank you for including us in your amazing day.
