A professional wedding photographer to cover your wedding that is!
Ok I admit it’s a well debated topic, and one that will probably never go away. Our views are obvious. Not least because (a) its our livelihood (b) we trained for it & spend a fortune on kit & insurance etc and (c) we’ve seen lots of ‘my friend has a camera’ photos and usually they ain’t pretty. But do people really believe that not hiring a professional is a good way to save money?
My standard reply at wedding fairs to anyone who says “my friend is doing it…she’s got a camera and takes nice pictures of flowers/cars/cats..” is to mention that I have a sewing machine at home and make nice bunting…but I wouldn’t dream of making a wedding dress. Oh yes I know my limitations.
So naturally I was surprised when Vogue magazine (you know…that glossy magazine full of glossy professionally taken pictures…) said it wasn’t worth hiring a pro. Fortunately for us we’re in demand, which means there are lots of sensible couples out there. One bride from Australia shares the same view and replied to Vogue by posting a selfie next to a shot taken by her hired professional at the same time.
